The Dental Assistant Is A Great Career Path
Wednesday, March 26th, 2008If you visit your dentist for regular check-ups, then you probably know your dental assistant on a first name basis. Most are the frontline in dental care. They are the backbone of the dental office and are absolutely essential.
If it were not for him or her, then the office would cease to run. They answer the phones and take payments. They schedule appointments and send out reminders about checkups. They clean teeth and assist in surgery. They are there for the patient and the dentist.
If a person wants a job as a dental assistant, then they must be willing to work as an office manager, a book keeper, an assistant to the dentist, a lab technician, take x rays, and much more. They also must be willing and able to switch to different areas of the office in case someone leaves a position or calls in sick. This is very important.
The certified assistants training usually takes about a year to complete but many assistants find their best training occurs on the job. If they are fresh out of a dental assistant school, then this on the job training is absolutely vital, as book experience only goes so far.
