It is an oft quoted statement that “First Impressions Count”. So are it with job interviews and the job seeking process? First impressions are created in the first few seconds of any personal interaction. Once created a first impression can be most difficult if not impossible to shake off. On top of that you never no who couldĀ be of help to you or hinder you in the job seeking process. What can you do to work to create and sustain a good first impression?

Looking for Entry Level Jobs?

Today’s post is a mix between search site resources and articles which provide useful information for entry level job seekers / college grads. While there are more choices for entry level job seekers, in many ways it is a more challenging endeavor. The lack of job hunting experience alone can be daunting, let alone the competition and process. Remember the basics, do your homework and be confident.

  • Ten Careers that Pay More Than $50k the First Year - While money isn’t everything, unless you are opting for volunteer work, it is an important consideration. Yahoo! Education provides a list of the top paying careers (starting salary) with links to additional information.
  • EntryLevelComputerJobs.com - As the name of this site implies, it is a job search engine that focuses on entry level Tech jobs. You can post your resume, search for jobs and peruse the information the IT Resources page. The home page is divided into the main Tech job categories for easy search.
  • Collegegraduatejobsearch.com - This site provides a broad range of articles, advice and links to help Entry Level and College Grads in their search.
  • Honorrollonline.com - In addition to providing a newsletter, a blog and career advice, this site matches employers with college students and graduates. In order to enroll in their program, your school must have signed up to participate (you can check to see which schools are included). They also have a link to “Student Union” which is an online community and resource.

Tap into Luck in Your Job Search

Many people are in the same boat today: searching, hunting, hoping and praying for a job. Many claim to not be picky - anything will do. Some are sticking it out for a good paying job to keep their accustomed standard of living. Most, though, will take a long time finding a job. Not necessarily because of the economy or financial crisis, but because they do not make the effort to research effective job search strategies.

If you tend to coast along, hoping that something will come your way, take heed: the Universe won’t drop a dream job in your lap (not usually anyways) but good luck does seem to come to those who work hard at things! Lucille Ball, who overcame considerable adversity in her life, said, “Luck? I don’t know anything about luck. I’ve never banked on it, and I’m afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else: Hard work — and realizing what is opportunity and what isn’t.”
