With the rise in popularity of Reality TV, just about everyone wants to get in on the act. Nobody wants a 9-5 job anymore, they want fame and fortune! If they don’t have a hope as a Popstar, they want to be a TV Presenter. But it’s not as easy as it looks, and unfortunately there’s an enormous amount of competition out there.
Don’t be fooled by thinking it’s enough to look great on camera. In the end talent wins through, and if you don’t have any, it won’t be long before the public finds you out.
Working as a TV presenter isn’t just about smiling prettily for the camera. In fact, there’s a lot of skill involved. First of all, you need to be able to communicate well. If you don’t sound good then get voice training to work on your pace, pitch and delivery. In addition you need to work on your posture. If you look uncomfortable then you’ll be uncomfortable to watch – the best presenters are the most natural.
You’ll need to have nerves of steel to carry off Live TV, and you need to be able to hold it together if things don’t go to plan. Also you need to be able to speak and listen to instructions and countdowns at the same time. To top it all you need to master your interview technique. Too many young presenters make the mistake of not actually listening to the interviewee and sticking rigidly to pre-planned questions. Do this and you’ll get caught out. Finally, if you really want to be a TV Presenter then get some training and get a showreel.
At http://www.sevenmediaproductions.co.uk you can get in depth training and tips from industry professionals, which will include a broadcast quality showreel to take away with you. No Director will take you seriously without one.
